I went to Arizona in November of 2022. This is my story.
So I think the most important thing about this trip is that I had planned a trip to the Grand Canyon every year for 8 years in a row. That’s fully planning, usually even making reservations at hotels, a trip to the Grand Canyon. It always got cancelled. So when my roommate said to me, “want to take a drive to south Utah for Thanksgiving?” the Tuesday before, I said “Yes, but only if we go to the Grand Canyon.” That evening we picked up some cold cuts and cheese from the store, packed the dog, and headed south.
Thanksgiving day we cautiously rolled up to the North Rim location. There’s snow on the ground and occasionally on the road. It’s risky because at any moment a snow storm could roll through and block the road and thwart yet another attempt of mine. They don’t plow this road, so if it’s blocked, then there’s no way to get there.

But luckily it was a beautiful day and the snow was melted off the road! I finally made it to the Grand Canyon! The North Rim was actually closed for the winter, but that just meant I could take the dog on the trails that aren’t dog friendly. Yeah, the dog does, in fact, look scared. She just kinda looks like that sometimes….totally not the wobbly path and the sheer drop off. It’s fine. We took a bunch of fun pictures, had some lunch, then continued on with the trip. [I’ll add a link here once I actually write about the rest of the trip]
